Moon Landing Anniversary Celebrations

Fifty years ago, the first two humans landed on the Moon. This huge achievement for the time was made possible by a team of more than 400,000 men and women here on Earth.

The UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres (ASDC) is delighted to be working in partnership with The UK Space Agency to bring together and share the huge range of Moon events, festivals, activities and resources created as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landing.

Destination Space: Girls Night Out

Hosted by: Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre

Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre's ever-popular Girls Night Out event returns in March 2019 with a special focus on Mars! You’ll get to meet Dr Natasha Stephen from the University of Plymouth, whose research focuses on linking information from Martian meteorites with data from space missions.

You’ll also get the chance to learn more about the planets of our Solar System with a Jodrell Bank expert in their inflatable Planetarium. And, as ever, stick around and chat to early career researchers, find out more about Women in Science, and enjoy our famous chocolate brownies!

This event is aimed at adults and children aged 12+

Big Space Day

Big Space Day is a celebration of space science taking place at the Royal Albert Hall in London. You’ll find a range of interactive, engaging and educational activities located across four space-zones around our historic building, including Destination Space activities and equipment that you can test out and experiment with. The event is supported by the UK Space Agency.

Uniformed Twilight Weeks

Hosted by: Observatory Science Centre, Sussex

The Centre will be opening its doors to uniformed groups from 5pm - 9pm. Tim Peake's mission will be very much in our minds as we explore the night sky (weather and light permitting) and help towards activity badges including science and astronomy.

Destination Space: Robots

Join us at Dynamic Earth as part of our exciting project Destination Space! Our ‘space-tacular’ Robots event will be celebrating some of the amazing science and technology developed by engineers to support life in space. Discover how robots are used to help astronauts like Tim Peake aboard the International Space Station and how we can control these robots to explore places beyond human reach. Programming sessions will be available throughout the day for junior robot engineers.
